In this episode Chris Brogan and I discuss how sharing your big idea with the world, letting people share your idea with their networks and letting them have some ownership of your idea builds a support team to bring your big idea to life.

Chris is Chief of Staff at Appfire.com. He is the New York Times bestselling author of ten books and counting. Chris is an international keynote speaker, having given over 1000 speeches across 14 countries and counting.

Too often people hoard ideas and try to get people to come around to their way of thinking. If you can come up with an idea that makes sense for someone else to take it and run with it that’s the best way to give value to an idea. Because once someone else says “this is my idea” then you’ve won. Chris isn’t in the getting credit for the cool idea department, he’s into getting people to share ideas. So, he wants to make sure that other people can understand his big idea and run with it.

Where is the line drawn that its your idea and other people run with it, how are you building a brand for yourself?

You know who gets referenced a lot in the world? People with good ideas. If you have enough good ideas that people are willing to acknowledge where they got them from, then you get the credit that way. Chris doesn’t need someone to say his name in an interview to feel better about himself. Once you have people that are seeking interesting thoughts, and seeking ways to influence their performance, and they get something of value from you they come back for more. Which means that by sharing your ideas with people and letting them run with them builds your brand in the long run. You end up reaching a larger audience because people are putting your idea in front of their audience.

In addition to branding, that can bring you repeat customers, monthly recurring revenue from people looking to you for more ideas, and other accolades.

In this episode we also discuss:

  • What makes content interesting and how to create entertaining and valuable content.
  • The topic of imposter syndrome and how to overcome it if you’re facing it.
  • Why you should strive to be the dumbest person in the room.
  • What makes a great question and how to ask great questions when you meet someone that you can learn from.
  • How to come up with big ideas to share.
  • How sharing other peoples’ ideas can help to build your brand and how to find those people.
