Gratitude changes everything. While I’ve written about gratitude before I’ve discovered a new Friday routine.
I journal about the three people that I’m most grateful for interacting with during the week and why I’m grateful for them. I send a simple message to them thanking them for whatever they did for me. What they did could be as simple as offering to listen to my latest and greatest idea or having a mentoring session with me that will have ripple effects now and far into the future.
This helps in a few ways. Science says your mind can’t hold onto a negative thought and a positive thought at the same time. Gratitude is a great way to take control of your thoughts, your moods, and the results from having happy ones for both. Relationships are all about continuing the conversation, that thank you message does just that. You brighten their week when most people are checking out on Friday, you’re checking in to brighten their day.
